The new Hollywood movie about the amazing life of the talented Joseph Bologne is finally coming out!  It looks like a great new film about this gifted artist and athlete.   This is the historic figure that inspired my non-profit project, Black Mozart.org.  I was inspired when I first learned about the life, talent, and accomplishments of this amazing man.

The Black Mozart.org non-profit is an organization of young musicians on a mission to inspire students of color with their cultural heritage in classical music.  The “Joseph Bologne Quartet” performs the beautiful music of composers of color, whom the world has not properly recognized.  100 percent of all proceeds from our concerts, CDs , and merchandize are donated to purchase instruments for students who do not own their own instruments.

The movie was originally titled “Black Mozart,” which was the name by which Joseph Bologne was most often known.  This nickname was meant as a complement by equating him to the genius of Mozart.  Did you know that Mozart actually borrowed one of Joseph’s melodies?  But they have since changed the title of the film to “Chevalier,” which was part of Joseph aristocratic title, which he inherited from  his father.  Joseph Bologne’s formal title was “Chevalier de Saint-Georges.”
